TCO 290 Research Paper Topics
History and Overview of Multimedia 1970 - Present This paper should describe the timeline of multimedia development over the last 32 years, including design & production models, software applications, ways in which multimedia is and has been used, and the changing role of multimedia and the Internet.
Multimedia Industry Production Standards This paper should describe the major industry standards related to the software applications that create multimedia, along with expected changes to these standards in the next five years. Relevant standards include Advanced Distributed Learning's SCORM, the Aviation Industry CBT Committee standards, and European standards groups such as ARIADNE.
Multimedia Interactivity & Design This paper should describe and attempt to capture a definition of multimedia related to various contexts, and describe different ways interactivity can and should be designed for those contexts.
Media Selection This paper should describe the process of media selection -- analyzing the audience, evaluating and selecting the most appropriate media mix to convey the information desired.
Applications of Multimedia This paper should describe the way in which multimedia is implemented and applied in education, training, business, advertising, etc.
Applications of Multimedia in Specific Industries

This paper should choose an industry to explore and describe the way in which multimedia is implemented and applied -- with special explanations of industry-specific considerations.

Multimedia, the ADA, and Web Accessibility This paper should explore and describe accessibility issues for disabled users who use the Internet and multimedia-enhanced software.
Project Management & Multimedia Production This paper should explore effective ways to manage multimedia projects, including standard project management techniques like design briefs and blueprints, work schedules, rapid prototyping, customer reviews, etc.
Creativity and Multimedia Design This paper should explore the role of creativity in designing multimedia and should specifically examine and describe how designers can become more creative and innovative.
Multimedia Design and Production Tools This paper should explore the wide variety of multimedia production tools -- profiling vendors, describing tools, demonstrating a features matrix, and explaining how tools should be matched to specific design tasks.
Gaming Design & Multimedia This paper should explore the world of multimedia computer games, profiling at least one well-known game to examine how game design both differs and is similar to other forms of multimedia design.
Multimedia Design for Children -- Special Considerations This paper should research the ways in which multimedia can be designed effectively for younger audiences. Topics examined can be games, educational multimedia, and gender differences in multimedia design for children.
Create & Defend a Multimedia Design & Production Model In this paper, present a new and innovative plan for designing multimedia -- a full design process (model) and defend it by explaining how it can be used in an actual design situation. Research should indicate a knowledge base of standard design and production models.
