Dr. Codone's Flash Tutorials - Creating Text Fades
adapted from EchoEcho.com --
http://www.echoecho.com/flashtweenings02.htm

Upon completion of this tutorial, you will be able to create text fades in Flash.

Step 1 -- Create a Symbol
Create a symbol -- any symbol.
Choose Insert > New Symbol in the menu (or press Ctrl+F8).
Enter a name for the symbol in the Symbol Properties box.
Leave the "graphic" option is selected.
Click OK.

Step 2 -- Enter Your Text
After clicking OK, you are taken to the symbol generator
in Flash. It looks exactly like the work area you are in when you
create movies and it acts in exactly the same way. The only difference is: here you create symbols - not movies. As you know, symbols can be dragged to the canvas of your movie once you're done creating them. Enter the text to act as a symbol. For the purpose of this tutorial, make your text large and thick. Then, exit the Symbol Generator back to your movie by clicking on the Scene1 icon in the upper left corner.

Step 3 -- Put Symbol in Movie
Insert the symbol into the movie by opening the library: either choose Window > Library in the menu or pressing Ctrl + L. With your mouse, drag your symbol from the symbol library into the canvas of the movie.
Now you're ready to create the tint tweening.

Step 4 -- Add Frames & Keyframes
Insert some number of frames in your movie. Then, enter a few keyframes about 1/3 and then 2/3 down your timeline. On your keyframes, you will enter a tint effect. Select a keyframe and then right click on the symbol to open the instance properties for the symbol (not properties for the frame.)

Step 5 -- Set Color/Tint Effects
Choose: Color Effect. In the "Color Effect" drop-down box choose "Tint". Position the "Tint Amount" bar at 100% or a percentage of your choice. (If it is set to zero, no tinting will appear). Enter values for Red, Green, and Blue. Add tint tweening to your other keyframes using different settings. Double click the keyframe in frame 1 to open the Frame Properties box appears.

Step 6 -- Create Motion Tweens
Create a motion tween in frame 1 and in the next keyframes to make the text fade in and out.

Press Ctrl-Enter to test your movie.
