B.S., M.A., Ph.D., Clemson University, 1997, 2001, 2004

Dr. Sean E. Mulholland has been an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Stetson School of Business and Economics, Mercer University since fall 2007. Prior to his appointment at Mercer, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics and member of the Environmental Studies Program at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA and an Assistant Professor of Economics at Auburn University Montgomery. He was a 2001 Property and Environment Research Center Fellow at the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) in Bozeman, Montana. 

Dr. Mulholland’s fields of research focus on economic growth, the economics of race, and natural resources and the environment. In 2004, he published “Land Trusts: The Growth of the Non-Profit Land Conservancy Movement,” in Incentives and Conservation: The Next Generation of Environmentalists. The paper develops a historical analysis of selected state and federal regulations to explain the expansion of the land trust movement and the variation in the frequency of successful new land trusts across states. His work on years of schooling and economic growth at the state level was published in the Journal of Economic Growth. In addition, he is currently looking at the relationship between hate groups and crime. 

Dr. Mulholland actively embraces his role as teacher and mentor. He has planned and chaperoned many student trips including those to the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Festival and the Atlanta Federal Reserve. He is currently participating in the American Economic Association’s Teaching Innovation Program (TIP).
