Dr. Jim Hunt is Associate Professor of Law at Mercer University, where he has held a joint appointment in the Stetson School of Business and Economics and the Walter F. George School of Law since 1998.  Jim received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  During law school he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review and received the J.D. degree with honors.  Jim also earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in American history, where he was a William F. Vilas graduate fellow and a teaching assistant in the history department.  In 1993 he earned a LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School, where he was a Harvard Law School graduate fellow and concentrated on American legal history and legal theory. 

Before teaching at Mercer, he clerked for one year for the Hon. Robert F. Chapman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and worked for five years as an attorney with the international law firm Hunton & Williams.  At Hunton & Williams Jim practiced primarily in the utilities field for electric, telecommunications, and water service corporations.  At Mercer he has taught introductory and advanced business law classes as well as the legal environment course for M.B.A. students.  At the law school he has taught business associations, American legal history, and legal writing. He has published numerous articles and papers in law and history journals as well as a book that addresses an early stage in the movement for increased federal regulation of American business -- Marion Butler and American Populism (Chapel Hill:  University of North Carolina Press, 2003).  In 2005-2006 Jim was a Fulbright Scholar in Kiev, Ukraine, where he taught graduate courses in law and economics, economic history, and law at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the oldest university in Ukraine.
