Impact Erosion Studies

This fixture was designed by a group of Seniors during the 2014-2015 Academic School Year. The students Jesse Barnes, Bradley Harrison, and Caleb Yawn, constructed this device from the requirement giving to them by me the client. This device has the following specifications as of now:
- Maximum test stand dimensions of 8 feet x 8 feet
- Pressure to be no less than 80psi and maximum pressure of standard schedule 80 PVC
- Ability to flow sand/water mixture at low solid to liquid concentrations (<10%)
- Use standard power and air from lab space
- Ability to attach pressure gauges at various locations especially at pump and nozzle
- Testing parameters must be measurable and controllable
Initial Testing was done by students from the Brazil Student Mobility Program or BSMP. Gustavo Bodstein, Andre Eggert, and Pedro Rosa were able to show that the test fixture can be used in scientific studies:

Current Projects:
- Effect of surface finish on impact erosion of both aluminum and steel samples
- Effect of surface coating on impact erosion of both aluminum and steel samples
