Art In the Park

Art in the Park is a temporary public art series of six outdoor exhibitions in Tattnall Square Park located across the street from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. The project is organized and facilitated by the Mercer University Art Department and funded by a grant from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation with support from Mercer University.

The six exhibitions will take place over approximately two years and are programed to help make College Hill the center of creative expression in the region, turning Tattnall Square Park into an outdoor gallery for works of art.

Four consecutive exhibitions are scheduled to take place in five month increments with two exhibitions of visiting artists works lasting eleven months each. The visiting artists exhibitions overlap with the five month shows and are considered special projects of their own, which involve the artists working with people in the Macon community to do a variety of workshops, lectures, and some collaboration.

History

The Art in the Park series was born through many conversations with members of The Friends of Tattnall Square Park, a civic organization whose mission is to care for and improve the park. The program was funded through a Knight Neighborhood Challenge Grant.
