Computational Thinking Across the Curriculum: The Power and the Peril
Mercer University strives to be "nationally renowned for providing a dynamic, diverse, and rigorous education where every student matters and learns to make a difference". With this goal in mind, Dr. Bob Panoff will be visiting to help us learn more about providing a world-class education by harnessing the power of computing. His talks will deal with computational thinking and computational science across the entire curriculum.
- "Computers, you say? What exactly is computational thinking all about?" This is a great question! Come to our opening talk on Tuesday, October 14th at 12 in the UC to find out the answer. Feel free to bring your lunch!
- "Computers, you say? I am a humanities professor and do not deal with programming and data." If this is you, don't stop reading! We have a workshop for you! Check out how computers can help you broaden minds and access this type of thinking without any programming experience needed. Consider attending our workshop for humanities and IDS faculty. View information about this workshop here. Also, please consider scheduling an appointment to meet with Dr. Panoff to discuss specific needs for your classroom.
- "Computers, you say? I teach in engineering, science, math, medicine or a related field. I could clearly use this to help my students better access information." If this is you, great! Consider attending our workshop for scientists and engineers. View information about this workshop here. Also, please consider scheduling an appointment to meet with Dr. Panoff to discuss specific needs for your classroom.
- "Computers, you say? I am involved with K-12 education and K-12 schools do not always have access to the newest technology." If this is you, have no fear! We have a workshop for you! We will be discussing resources that are designed for K-12 educators. These materials are accessible and aligned to national standards. Consider attending our workshop for K-12 educators.
